Apple iPhone 7 support.

Updating your software.

There are two different updates you can do on your iPhone: a software update and a carrier settings update.

Updating your software gives you new features, keeps your phone running smoothly and can fix a lot of common problems. It should always be one of the first things you do if you’re having problems with your iPhone.

The iOS download may be slow during the first few days after it's released because lots of people around the world are trying to update their iPhone at the same time.

You'll need to connect to Wi-Fi to update your software. If you don't have a Wi-Fi connection available, you can update your software by connecting to iTunes.

To install an update, your iPhone will need to have at least 50% battery life left. If you have less than 50%, you'll need to connect your iPhone to a power source to continue.

A carrier settings update makes changes to settings including:

  • network
  • calling
  • data
  • messaging
  • voicemail.

Carrier settings updates will normally happen automatically during a software update. However, if they don't, you can do it manually. Check the carrier settings page to see how.

To update your software:

  1. On the homescreen, tap Settings.

  2. Tap General.

  3. Tap Software Update.

  4. If an update is available, tap Download and Install and follow the onscreen instructions.

  5. If your iPhone has the latest software, you'll see a message telling you that your software is up to date.

The software on your iPhone will now be updated to the latest version.
