Personal Hotspot on your phone.
Personal Hotspot lets you use your phone’s data to set up a Wi-Fi connection. You can then connect other devices to that connection so they can access the internet. Personal Hotspot is also called tethering.
- Getting Personal Hotspot.
You can use Personal Hotspot on all our current Advanced Pay Monthly phone and SIM plans. This included Pay Monthly plans taken out or upgraded since March 2014, and SIM plans taken out or upgraded since July 2014, but doesn’t include our Essential plans.
Personal Hotspot is only available on Pay As You Go on our unbeatable rates for data at 1p/MB.
If you have all-you-can-eat data, you'll have a separate Personal Hotspot allowance. If you don’t, you can use Personal Hotspot from your standard data allowance.
You can check your Personal Hotspot allowance at any time by going to your Allowance page in My3.
- Using Personal Hotspot.
Personal Hotspot lets you use the internet on other devices when you're out and about. You can connect things like laptops, tablets and games consoles through Wi-Fi or USB. It’s compatible with all our older One Plan plans including our one month rolling SIM plan.
You’ll need to buy an Add-on if:
- You run out of Personal Hotspot allowance
- You're on one of our Essential plans
- You’re on one of our older Pay Monthly plans.
You can only use your allowance in the UK.
If you want to know more about setting up Personal Hotspot, check our device support pages.
- About Add-ons.
To find out what Add-ons you can get on your plan, and to buy an Add-on, go to the Buy Add-ons page in My3.
Essential plans need the Add Personal Hotspot Add-on to get an allowance, but if you’re on the One Plan, you won’t be able to buy Add Personal Hotspot, as it’s not compatible with your plan.
Personal Hotspot isn’t available on Pay As You Go at the moment.
We’ll sometimes send you software updates to keep your Personal Hotspot working properly. If you’re having problems, make sure you’re running the latest version. Select your phone to find out how to update your software.
If you get a warning message about Personal Hotspot allowance, you’ll need to turn your phone off and back on again to make sure your internet is working properly. If you’ve run out of Personal Hotspot allowance, you can buy an Add-on to keep using it.
If you’re still having problems, check the following:
- Do you have Personal Hotspot Allowance?
- Do you have enough data?
- Are you running the latest software?
