Using the internet abroad.
Otherwise, if you’re going any EU or EEA destination in Europe, we’ve got great news: using your phone there won’t cost you any more than it would at home. Check your destination’s support page to see exactly what costs (if any!) you can expect.
Smartphones are permanently connected to the internet so you could use data without realising it. If you want to manage these settings by either switching them on or off, you’ll need to change your phone’s settings. You can find out how to do this here. If you switch data roaming off you won’t need to worry about any applications being left running in the background that could be using data without you knowing.
Unless you’re in an EU, EEA or (on Advanced plans) other Feel At Home destination, using data abroad could be excluded from any inclusive allowances or Add-ons you have, so you could be charged for using it. If you’re in a Feel At Home destination, there are some fair use restrictions. You can use up to 12GB of data from your allowance per month if you’re a Pay Monthly customer or 9GB if you’re on Pay As You Go. If you go over this limit, you’ll be charged 0.78p/MB in the EU and 0.6p/MB in non-EU / non-EEA countries. But don’t worry, we’ll text you in advance if it looks like you’re approaching the limit.
You can see exactly what charges, if any, you’ll have for using data abroad by checking your destination’s support page. If for whatever reason you don’t want to use data abroad, find out how to switch off data roaming.
Just so you know, in Feel At Home destinations, you can use up to 12GB of data from your allowance per month. Otherwise, you’ll be charged per megabyte. We don’t round data roaming usage up or down.
Worldwide and EU data roaming limits.
We don’t think you should spend more than you want to when using the internet on your phone when you’re abroad. So to help manage your costs, we’ve set a worldwide data roaming limit of £42.50 per month.
You can find more information, including details of how to change this limit here.
